An altar dedicated to Yemanjá, the Orisha of the ocean and mother of all living beings, this work marks a return to origin. Rooted in Yoruba cosmology and carried across the Atlantic through the transatlantic slave trade, Yemanjá embodies water as source, memory, and continuity.

Composed of layered materials—shells, reflective surfaces, fabric, and offerings—the altar functions as both a devotional space and a threshold. It is not only to be viewed, but entered. The ocean here is not distant; it is present, surrounding, and internal.

Mirrored elements extend the work beyond itself, drawing the viewer into its field and suggesting that connection to source is not lost, only obscured.

Following works centered on survival and repair, this piece shifts the narrative toward return—where the body is reconnected to a lineage that precedes interruption.
